Next Saturday ak and mmj set off walkingtalkingwriting in the direction of ISTANBUL.
It may (or may not) serve to demonstrate a ‘method’ (from earlier posts see ‘rooted in a permanent need’ on this blog, and also ‘raw materials’ from the akirbymmjamesagency blog):
- walking – "On foot": in fact we are travelling by train. London ,Paris, Vienna, Belgrade and then Istanbul, arriving on Wednesday morning at Sirkeci station. Train was a compromise; slower by days than air travel, faster by months than literally walking. Camel would have been best perhaps, but the han of the caravanserai are not to be found west of Vienna, and those in the Balkans haveall now fallen into disuse.
- talking – "And Peace be with you!": when we meet – who we meet, travelling, with a 2 night stopover in Belgrade (Hotel Rex), and 3 nights in Istanbul after we get there.
- writing – "On paper": with pens and notebooks. And posts, for which 2 hours in Vienna, a whole day in Belgrade, and time from Wednesday to Saturday morning in Istanbul will have to suffice.
"Threshold of what?" ak asks of us readers in his last post. From out of the innumerable paths crisscrossing this point of asking, here is one among many; from the Guardian Culture Vulture blog – the debate about Orhan Pamuk’s Nobel Prize . OP is in New York (or was last week-end I think), so we are unlikely to meet him in Istanbul. But we will see who else we meet, poets or pundits, UN economic advisers or bandits, politicians or ‘turbo-folk’ songsters, on the journey – "And Peace be with you!"
